Project Description

Tomago Aluminium is located on Australia’s east coast around 13km Northwest of Newcastle in the industrial suburb of Tomago. Tomago Aluminum is one of the largest aluminum smelters in Australia, employing more than 1000 people and generating revenue of more than $1.1billion annually.

Tomago Aluminum has three existing potlines with four rectifiers each. Each potline has a maximum current level of 220kA. INP assisted ABB AG with commissioning of three 1,000 volt/65,000 amp ABB rectifiers increasing the maximum current level of each potline to approximately 285kA.

All three rectifiers were installed and tested with the existing control system without interruption to the existing production.
